Iniesta: Euro test toughest yet

Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta believes that winning Euro 2012 will be the toughest task his side have had.

Spain are highly favoured for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine after winning Euro 2008 and the World Cup in 2010, but Iniesta alerted his side that they will have to step up a notch to come out on top in Poland and Ukraine.

Everything that is in the past is always easier than what is to come, Iniesta told reporters.

These Euros will be much harder than the World Cup we won. This team is ready. I like to live the present, what lies ahead.

We have a very beautiful challenge ahead which will be a lot tougher than the previous one.

Spain begin their European Championship campaign against Italy on June 10 before taking on the Republic o…

Atletico Madrid 2 Celta Vigo 0: Hosts´ grip on second strengthened by Griezmann

Atletico Madrid returned to winning ways in unconvincing fashion as Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata earned a 2-0 LaLiga victory over Celta Vigo.

Diego Simeone s men welcomed Celta to the Wanda Metropolitano following a 2-0 defeat to Barcelona that effectively ended their title hopes.

Diego Costa received an eight-match ban for insulting the referee during that game, and Atletico were often second best against a resurgent Celta, who had taken seven points from their last three matches to boost hopes of survival.

However, Griezmann lashed home a 42nd-minute free-kick and Morata doubled their lead 16 minutes from time as Atletico increased their lead over Real Madrid who play Leganes on Monday to five points in the battle for second. Celta remain two points abov…

Boca: Barca keen on Araujo

Boca Juniors president Daniel Angelici says Barcelona are still interested in signing promising forward Sergio Araujo.

The 20-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in 2011, but the transfer did not materialise.

Nevertheless, Barcelona have not forgotten about Araujo and they continue to follow the Argentina Under-23 star s progress.

They continue to be interested in Sergio Araujo, so I invited them to make an offer if they really want him, Angelici told Sport.

Araujo is a product of the Boca youth academy, and made his official first-team debut in December 2009.

Nottingham Forest want VAR audio to be released after rejected penalty claims

Nottingham Forest have asked for the VAR audio to be released concerning three key decisions that went against them in their match at Everton on Sunday.

Forest issued an extraordinary post on social media soon after the final whistle in their 2-0 Premier League defeat at Goodison Park, criticising the decision to reject three penalty claims.

The club said they had “warned” Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) that VAR Stuart Attwell “was a Luton fan”, but that the referees’ body did not change the appointment.

Nottingham Forest has today submitted a formal request to the PGMOL to release into the public domain the audio recordings between officials during yesterday’s match against Everton at Goodison Park.

The club has requested t…

Gelson Fernandes has signed with Sporting Lisbon after leaving Saint-Etienne on a free transfer.

The Switzerland international spent the second half of last season on loan at Udinese but has now opted to move to the Portuguese club on a four-year contract.

I am delighted and I have to say thanks for the reception that I have received, Fernandes told his new club s official website.

I was astonished by it. Sporting have a great history and are hungry for victories.

Fernandes, who was born in Cape Verde but has now been capped 37 times by Switzerland, joined Saint-Etienne from Manchester City in 2009.

Thiago Silva is set to become a free agent at season s end and a new deal does not appear forthcoming, alerting Serie A title-holders Juventus.

Juventus have been encouraged by comments made by the representative of Thiago Silva, who suggested the Brazil international could leave if his future is not resolved by December.

Klopp backs Liverpool to win title ´within four years´

Liverpool can win the Premier League title within the next four years, new manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested.

The 18-time champions of England have failed to finish first in the top flight since 1990, with Brendan Rodgers coming closest to ending that drought with a second-place finish in 2013-14.

Klopp believes major silverware is possible before 2019  though he has pleaded for patience as he attempts to build a side capable of challenging.

It s absolutely surreal. I woke up this morning and I was manager of Liverpool FC. But I don t care about things like that, things like the press. I m a normal manager and I want to work with the players on the pitch, he said.

It s not so important what people think when you come in it s about what you think when…

Borussia Dortmund forward Michy Batshuayi accused Atalanta supporters of aiming racist abuse at him during his side s 1-1 Europa League draw on Thursday.

Marcel Schmelzer s late goal secured a 4-3 aggregate win for Dortmund as the Bundesliga side booked their place in the last 16, but the aftermath has been overshadowed by the Chelsea loanee s claims.

Batshuayi tweeted: 2018 and still racists monkey noises in the stands…really?! Hope you have fun watching the rest of the Europa League on TV while we are through. #SayNoToRacism #GoWatchBlackPanther

Atalanta president Antonio Percassi was told about the tweet during a live interview with Sky Sport Italia.
